new (rich) kids on the block

August 22nd, 2008

It seems that fashion isn’t the only thing re-inventing and repeating itself. This fall, the 90′s cult drama, Beverly Hills 90210, is back. With so much hype, it remains to be seen whether or not it will live up to the original zip code but i’ll be tuning in simply out of curiosity. During my high school years- pre reality takeover- 90210 was the show that everyone was watching…and talking about. The following schoolday after an episode aired, my girlfriends and i gathered round excitedly to re-hash and speculate over everything from the whirlwind romance between blonde bombshell Kelly (all the girls wanted to be her) and bad-boy heartthrob Dylan, the Walsh’s wholesomeness and Brenda’s notorious divaness on and off-screen. Now, we have the box sets to talk about everything we loved so much back then, including the fashion statements- which today seem outrageous what with Donna’s shoulder pads (remember when she took a suitcase of them camping?!) And of course, the knee length jean short cut-offs! (Watching it now, i can’t help but think what a success AA might have been back then). This fall’s re-casting of the original California kids is sure to be at least visually enticing- with a new breed of good looks and spoiled antics, it’s almost guaranteed to generate some kind of a wardrobe following.
But I wonder if the plot will have an uber wholesome foursome like the Walsh’s as its protagonists? And furthermore- do teens today even take to good morals, or was OMFG!! the end of it all?

I love that there is a little canadian girl from Degrassi the Next Generation on an american drama! A big break for her! I will be checking out this show out of a curiousity both to see what they do with the show and also how “Darcy” does. Embarassing that I watch Degrassi TNG, yes, I know.

Beccajanie- thanks for stopping by my blog! I agree- it's awesome that there is a Canadian girl on the new 90210! I think Degrassi is a major stepping stone into the world of opportunity for Canadian talent and i think it's equally great and supportive of you to tune into Degrassi TNG- i remember watching it when i was in high school and although i no longer tune in, whenever i see the ads, i can't help but think what a solid & grounded series it is. Canadian shows might be under the radar for the most part but i think that's what gives them the platform to deliver genuine representations of real-life issues. :-)
