beauty culture: mascara

My current mascara rotation: Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes (a.k.a LOL. How funnnnn is that?!), Diorshow and L’Oréal Voluminous Million Lashes.

A bunch of years ago, holed up in a winter’s cabin at the foot of a Fernie, B.C ski resort, my sister-in-law, Lauren taught me a weeee little mascara trick for creating voluminous, curled lashes. Basically, it trumps the eyelash curler and the proof is in the pudding folks, because I haven’t had to prod my lashes into a curl, since. Not even at the mercy of seeing my veryyy neglected nooootoooooriiious Shu Uemura one, sitting unused in my makeup box.

The how-to: Instead of looking towards a mirror to apply your mascara, grab a portable mirror (or even any eyeshadow palette/bronzer or whatever palette that has a mirror) and hold it just below your chin. Then looking down, towards the lower-positioned mirror, apply your mascara. Easy, peasy it’s tots worth a try! I can’t promise you’ll all be saying sayonara! to your eyelash curlers tomorrow morning, or that you’ll all want to for that matter, but consider this a little mascara trick passed down from us…to you!
