Backstage culture: Altuzarra SS 2012, the make up how-to
We’re a few days short of that time of year again– (Valentine’s Day…yes), when we look ironically forward to next fall/winter’s cozy layers (which I can’t get enough of) by way of Fashion Week Month, all the while wishing we could step into spring/summer, like tomorrow.
Keeping up with the theme of looking ahead, M.A.C Senior Artist (a.k.a The Insider who has worked her magic on the models backstage, prepping them for the shows), Caitlin Callahan walks us through one of the biggest Spring Summer 2012 trends– Bold Brows. Inspired by Altuzarra‘s newest collection, this beauty angle is anything but subtle, but Callahan’s approach gives it a totally wearable spin. Give ‘em a go!
” There’s a distinct focus this season on feminine beauty after last season’s tough and androgynous looks. Despite taking more of a page out of “pretty” than recent seasons past, say, many of the spring/summer 2012 make-up looks still need a little adaptation for daily wear– Proenza Schouler, Missoni, Just Cavalli and Blumarine, among them to name a few. If you want to add a little runway drama to your look, here are some tips for toning down the Altuzarra inspired trend for everyday wear– brow fans, this one’s for you!
At Altuzarra, we wanted to create a high-impact, exaggerated sexy brow but an everyday, softer variation can be easily achieved by adapting the same runway shape. First, using the Clear Brow Set, comb brow hair upwards. Once dry, re-create the stark shape* seen at the show, more or less depending on the natural fullness of your brows (if they’re on the fuller side, I’m jealous!), with the Eye Brows Pencil in a natural (hair colour) shade, like Lingering, Stud or Mink.
This look is all in the impact of the brows. To maintain the focus on their stark, drawn out shape while keeping things minimally sexy and effortless, a soft, no-fuss complexion is essential. Aim for healthy hydrated skin, using light-reflecting mineral powders and liquids like Mineralize Skin Finish Face and Body Foundation, which yield that dewy, almost sporty complexion. Ideally, lips should be as muted as possible– try Plushglass in Nice Buzz, but if you want to go the route of a stronger mouth, use colour to stain, versus completely saturating.”
